2022 is quickly coming to a close but the work isn’t slowing down at AA Diesel Truck bodies, with plenty of builds still rolling through the factory! One of these builds was for Mountain Timbers, requiring a custom rear mount crane tray for this UD Quon to help them make deliveries to building sites across Melbourne.
Fitting out a custom tray for the installation of a crane is always a bit more complex than a standard build, but our team at AA Diesel love the tricky jobs and our client loved the result. As always we worked with premium Hardox Steel throughout this job to ensure a premium result in all of our truck body builds.
DESIGNING THE REAR MOUNT CRANE TRAY
After talking with the owner of Mountain Timbers to see how the truck would be utilised our team got to work, planning out the installation of the custom tray to fit in the existing rear mounted Fassi crane. As with all of our jobs, each part of this build was done in-house from start to finish, using our very own expert qualified engineer, and all under one VASS certificate.
Having our own expert engineer on-site gives our customers piece of mind and we reflect that in our builds, with all of our truck trays including:
- Cross bearers spaced 350mm apart to avoid bowing
- 100mm PFC coaming rail
- Fully pre-cambered to avoid sagging
With the truck tray built and installed to support the Fassi crane it was time to apply the finishing touches, giving the project the AA Diesel shine that we are known for!
Finishing Touches
Usually we’re building custom toolboxes for our clients to install on the truck bodies but this job broke that mold, with Mountain Timbers supplying a toolbox for us to integrate into the truck tray. Not a problem for our staff! As you’ll see in the photos below we integrated this toolbox seamlessly into the build for a result both us and our client were very happy with.
We also installed tray load binders on both sides of the truck tray, giving Mountain Timbers easy access to strapping for big loads. Finally, we completed the build by installing crane pad and traffic cone holders underneath the tray, making it easier for their workers to access what they need as quickly as possible.
A pleasure to work with and pleasure to build for, we were very happy with this result for Mountain Timbers and can’t wait to see this UD Quon out on the road making deliveries with its crane tray very soon!
