Our workshop was very active this June with a series of new and exciting projects that included tipper bodies, truck trays and trailers, wheelbase modifications, and our favourites: unique custom jobs – such as the conversion of an IVECO prime mover to a tipper truck with a custom tipping tray and other special features we built a few weeks ago.
It was a huge project as our client wanted to cover as many applications as possible with the same truck – challenging but exciting! Considering our client’s requirements, we found a suitable solution and we are very proud of the result. Now we are happy to share the details of the project with you, so keep reading!
DESIGNING THE TRUCK TRAY
The IVECO entered our workshop as a prime mover, which our client wanted to convert into a tipper truck that would meet the following requirements:
- Feature a 6.6mt tipping tray with heavy duty removable drop sides
- Have the capacity and resistance to carry a 20ft container
- Include toolboxes and pull-out ladders
With these requirements in mind and after discussing the regular jobs our client performs we got to work, designing the solution that would best suit our clients needs with the skills and expertise available to all customers at AA Diesel Truck Bodies.
Since the prime mover was too short for the 6.6mt tipping tray our client wanted, we started off by stretching the wheelbase.
wheelbase modifications
To accommodate the 6.6mt tipping tray we extended the chassis by 2mt, allowing the client to utilize the tray for extra materials, larger machines and increase the truck’s productivity. This modification process is done entirely in-house, from cutting the truck in half to rolling the drive axles back to meticulously ensuring driveline angles are correct.
All wheelbase modifications strictly follow original manufacturer instructions and are supervised by our in-house, VASS certified engineers, giving the client assurance that our modifications are compliant and built to last.
building the tipping tray
Considering that it was crucial for our client to cover as many applications as possible, we decided to fabricate the tipping tray with three removable heavy duty drop sides per side and a heavy duty removable tailgate. The tipping tray also features 11 flush mount tie-down points, a winch support at the front headboard, and rope rails all along the tray.
Also, to ensure that the tripping tray would have the necessary resistance and capacity to carry a 20ft container, we included container pins and reinforcement. And as always, we used Hardox Wear Plate steel to build this custom truck tray, ensuring impact strength and wear resistance.
If you have read or seen some of our projects before, you might have noticed that details are important for us. This project was no exception! We love to add high quality finishing touches and special features to the truck bodies we build in our workshop. This time, we included two pull-out ladders and two toolboxes built according to the client’s request, as well as LED lights in the rear tailgate and a tow bar with a PH300 pintle hook.
It was a pleasure to work on this project, and we are very much looking forward to more of these exciting projects in the following months. As always, we are happy to chat with you if you have something unique in mind for your truck, so do not hesitate to give us a call.
