May was a busy month at AA Diesel Truck Bodies with a range of sensational projects: wheelbase modifications, tipper bodies, trailers, trays, and custom jobs. One of the definite stand out jobs for this month was designing, building, and fabricating a state-of-the-art, demountable tipper body for a new Mack Trident. The system we designed allows the client to quickly and easily switch between a prime mover to a tipper, and back again.
In this first part of the truck build process, we used our expertise, knowledge, and skills to brainstorm with our clients and to ensure that we find the most suitable solution that turns their unique ideas into reality.
For this Mack Trident, our client came to us with a challenge: the new Mack has to be able to function as both a tipper truck and as a prime mover, and be able to switch back and forth. The team here loves these kinds of challenges because they push us to think about new and innovative ways to engineer our truck bodies.
Working closely with the client, we decided that a demountable tipper body would be the best solution. The team was pumped to get to work on this one.
To make the tipper body demountable, the subframe was fabricated in a way so that it can be easily removed from the chassis whenever needed. This was achieved by mounting certified locking plates and installing quick release fittings.
To disconnect the tipper body from the chassis, the operator simply needs to:
This process essentially detaches the tipper body from the chassis, allowing the operator to drive out from underneath the body.
As for the actual tipper body itself, it was built to our usual high standards using Hardox Wear Plate steel. We always use the highest quality steel for our bodies as we aim for long-term durability that is able to endure Australia’s demanding transport conditions. In addition, our in-house engineers were involved in the design of the subframe and the tipper body and constantly evaluated the whole process to certify that the finishing product would comply with the Australian transport industry regulations. Once everyone was happy with the build, a VASS certificate of compliance was issued.
Details matter at AA Diesel Truck Bodies, so we make sure that we apply high quality finishing touches to every truck body we build. In this case, our client chose a dark charcoal grey for the two pack paint, which was accompanied by our signature stainless steel strips at the bottom of the body. The tipper body also features a two-way swinging tailgate, electric tarp, spray suppressant, and LED lights.
All finishing touches were performed in our workshop, which was definitely time-saving for our client.
