One of our favourite highlights from September was building a custom tipper body, truck and trailer hydraulics, and tow bar assembly for a brand new Mack Superliner. This is a great looking truck with around 600 horsepower, and the team was very excited to start work on it and have it ready for our client so they could get it out onto the road.
This was a tricky custom project and needed a lot of careful and meticulous planning to make sure we got it spot on from the outset. We took lots of time to consult with the client about the kinds of jobs they would be doing on a daily basis, as well as their personal preferences, and then we custom designed the specifications for this truck body to suit their unique needs.
We first designed, built and fabricated a custom tipper body for this Mack. The tipper body was 4.5m long with 1.15m high sides, giving it an overall 11.9 cubic metre capacity. It also featured full length AA Diesel Truck Bodies in-house pressed top and bottom rails, and was complemented with an electric razor tarp fitted to the body.
To make access easier and more practical for the client, stow away ladders were fitted to the sides of the tipper body so the client can access the product without overstepping.
For the hydraulic system, this truck combination required additional controls fitted to operate a specialised dog trailer, which required 4 additional air operated functions to the trailer and a separate hydraulic return. Working closely with our suppliers, were were able to come up with a solution so that this truck could run 2 different trailer combinations. The effectively allows the client to use both a standard tipping dog trailer as well as a specialised ‘ejector’ trailer.
This truck was also fitted with our own, in-house designed and engineer certified tow bar assembly, along with a Rockinger 50mm auto coupling, which maximises its towing capacity, allowing it to carry much larger payloads than it usually would.
All of our tipper bodies, including this one are made from Hardox Wear Plate steel, which provides long lasting durability in the tough Australian transport conditions. Each tipper body is custom built in-house using the highest quality materials and our specialised machinery.
